About Me
My name is Ekaputra Abdul Jabar; for simplicity's sake, my friends and family simply call me Eka. Even for a short name of two syllables, I am still quite amused at hearing all the various pronounciation variations. I am a Malaysian national.
My love for art and design started at a young age, and I've always loved exploring the various forms of art, or what I'd like to call the visual history of human nature and expression. Although I completed my university studies with an engineering degree from Portland State University as a means of building academic discipline, my love and flair for art remains strong and persistent.
During the eve of 2001, my professional experience began when I co-founded Ai Graphics, a web design and development company based in Portland, Oregon. My skills flourished during my years as a creative director there, and I later chose to pursue different experiences on my own.
My love involving stylized illustration has brought me to explore themes reminiscent of the vintage posters; the stylistic works of Michael Kungl and Bernard Villemot were major sources of inspiration. I've also created a number of café themed posters for my own personal enjoyment. My most recent love affair with photography has also lead me towards sharpening my mind's eye in seeing and capturing portraits and abstract scenes.
Prints of my illustrations can be purchased directly from my online prints store.
Currently I reside in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where I continue to explore and experience the colorful world around me. I also help run Zefira Media, a joint collaboration group specializing in graphic design for both the web and print, always open for freelance work and commisions.
Equipment
I work primarily within a digital workflow using a Nikon DSLR and Apple computers. However, a good old sketchbook still forms the basis of my many ideas and random musings.
